Historical background
Another of the Pancha Ishwarams. Praised by the Saiva Nayanars in the 7th century and rebuilt in stages after Portuguese destruction in 1575.

A core pilgrimage stop on the Ramayana Trail and a focal point of the Tamil Saiva revival in the 20th century.
