Historical background
The northernmost Pancha Ishwaram, mentioned in ancient Tamil texts and rebuilt after Portuguese destruction in the 17th century. Damaged during the civil war and now restored.

Combined with the adjacent Keerimalai spring, which is believed to cure ailments and grant fertility — a major pilgrimage destination from across South India.

Bathe in the Keerimalai freshwater spring (separate pools for men and women) facing the Palk Strait before entering the temple.
