Historical background
One of the Pancha Ishwarams predating the Common Era. Legend says Lord Rama stopped here on his return to India to seek absolution from Lord Shiva for killing Ravana.
Religious significance
Believed to be where Rama performed Pradosham puja to remove the sin of killing the Brahmin Ravana — central to the Sri Lankan Ramayana Trail.
Visitor experience
The complex includes five separate temples; the main shrine is dedicated to Shiva. Watch for the colourful Munneswaram Festival in August-September.
