Best Time to Visit Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka has two monsoons that hit opposite coasts at opposite times, so the country is a year-round destination — you just need to pick the right region for the month. Below is a month-by-month breakdown for the West & South coasts, the East coast, and the Hill Country, plus what we'd book in each month.
The two-monsoon rule, in one paragraph
The Yala monsoon (May–September) brings rain to the West and South coasts and the Hill Country. The Maha monsoon (November–February) brings rain to the North and East. December–March is peak season for Galle, Mirissa, Bentota and Yala. May–September is the time for Trincomalee, Nilaveli, Pasikuda and Arugam Bay. October and April are inter-monsoon shoulder months — usually warm with short afternoon showers.
